Paula Fernandes

Paula Fernandes (1966, Santo Tirso, Portugal) holds a BA degree in Law by the University of Coimbra, Portugal. She collaborated extensively with the Teatro dos Estudantes da Universidade de Coimbra (TEUC), Círculo de Artes Plásticas and the Coimbra University Biennial. Since 2001 she has been a curator at the Serralves Museum of Contemporary Art in Porto where she is responsible for the organization and coordination of temporary exhibitions. Major projects include: ‘Squatters’ (2001, co-produced with Witte de With, Rotterdam); ‘Francis Bacon: Caged/Uncaged’ (2003); ‘Robert Rauschenberg: Travelling ‘70-76’ (2007, travelled to Haus der Kunst, Munich; Museo Donna Regina, Naples); ‘Manoel de Oliveira’ (2008, travelled to Instituto Tomie Ohtaka, São Paulo); ‘Of the Wall’ (2011, co-produced with the Whitney Museum of American Art, New York), and more recently ‘How to (…) things that don’t exist ― An exhibition developed out of the 31 st São Paulo Biennial’ (2015), On the Verge of Visibility by Wolfgang Tillmans and TECNOFORM by Silvestre Pestana, Yoko Ono (2020), Louise Bourgeois (2020), Ai Weiwei (2021), Cindy Sherman (2022) and Ryoji Ikeda (2022) among others. Currently, she is currently doing the PHD at Colégio das Artes in Universidade de Coimbra, Portugal
